Q4A is looking to expand our team and establish a local presence in the Ottawa region. We require an Architect with a minimum of 7-10 years experience to run and manage current and future projects for our clients in the area.


  • Professional degree in architecture B. Arch or M. Arch (Preferred)
  • LEED Accreditation (Preferred)


  • Architectural Design & Design Development: 10 years (Required)
  • Project Management: 10 years (Required)


  • Must be able to develop a complex building design from initial planning and Schematic Design through Construction Administration
  • Must have residential experience and demonstrated expertise in wood frame and other structural components, including both light weight and structural steel, as well as concrete
  • Licensed to practice architecture in Ontario
  • Must have extensive project management experience
  • Experienced in and capable of delivering both design and working drawings
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities
  • Able to work independently, organize oneself, and concisely communicate work progress remotely
  • Has strong interpersonal skills, able to work with others, manage a team, and review colleagues work in a constructive manner, and do so remotely
  • Has established connections with the Ottawa architecture/ design community and is interested in attending local events and developing Q4A’s brand
  • Bilingual, with an ability to communicate in either English or French would be considered an asset

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Works with clients to gather facts, defines design and space planning problems, conceptualize possible solutions and secure approvals of proposals
  • Reviews product literature, analyzes materials, and determines appropriateness for application to projects
  • Develops conceptual design documents, including master planning, preliminary design and development, architectural, interior design and space planning solutions
  • Is comfortable dealing with multiple stakeholders (municipal authorities, planners, engineers and contractors, etc.)
  • Leads contract administration process and works with stakeholders to ensure that the appropriate hand-offs take place, to ensure that the design intent is seen through to the completion of construction
  • Performs full coordination of sub-consultants
  • Is proficient in communicating graphically, ideas in design and making drawings primarily in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Designs projects and/or review architectural or engineering plans, specifications and contract documents to ensure compliance with government codes, laws and regulations
  • Advises subcontractors on the interpretation of plans, recommends changes when necessary
  • Prepares and/or review preliminary designs, working drawings, specifications and cost estimates related to the project
  • Researches literature and maintain knowledge of current building materials, structural, mechanical and electrical system codes and methods of application
  • Reviews Subcontractor's shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract agreements by checking them for technical accuracy according to accepted guidelines
  • Performs design drafting including preliminary drawings, working drawings and full detail drawings for architectural works associated with building construction or improvement projects
  • Is technically knowledgeable and up to date with current building science and architectural detailing

Technical Skills:

  • Comfortable in using Skype and GoToMeeting to communicate remotely
  • High-level Proficiency with Revit and Auto CAD (Required)
  • Ability and interest in using different computational tools such as Rhino3D, 3DS-Max, Sketchup (Preferred)
