Q4 Architects is looking for a Senior Architect to add to our Toronto studio. If you are talented, enthusiastic, creative, enjoy working in teams and have a passion for architecture, Q4 Architects wants to get to know you.
Our ideal candidate is a Senior Architect with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience who will run and manage current and future projects for our clients. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects through all phases with the majority being in residential design of mid- and high-rise buildings.


Experience

  • Project Management: 7-10 years (Required)
  • Architectural Design & Documentation: 7-10 years (Required)

Education

  • Professional degree in architecture: B.Arch or M.Arch (Preferred)
  • LEED Accreditation (Preferred)

Qualifications

  • Residential experience preferred. Candidate must have expertise in several structural alternatives such as: lightweight and structural steel, wood frame, composite steel/hollow core slab hybrids, point-load + beam + hollow core, as well as concrete in situ.
  • Licensed to practice architecture with the Ontario Association of Architects is an asset. 
  • Experienced in, and capable of delivering at all stages: Feasibility Studies, Preliminary Design, Design Development, SPA Submissions, and Construction Documents. 
  • Working knowledge of Construction Administration, shop drawing review as well as on-site review experience and reporting is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated with superb interpersonal and leadership skills. Has the ability to offer our repeat Clients creative and responsive solutions to their demands and needs.  
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities.
  • Has established connections in the Toronto architecture/design community and is interested in attending events and developing Q4A's brand.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative environment while leading and mentoring a team. 
  • Enthusiastic participant in team leadership and business development.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to create a creative complex architectural building design from initial planning and Schematic Design through Construction Administration ensuring the design intent is followed through to the completion of construction.
  • Able to create design solutions in master planning, interior, and space planning.  
  • Develop a functional program: work with clients to gather facts, define design and space planning problems, conceptualize possible solutions and secure approvals of proposals.
  • Deal with multiple stakeholders and clients (municipal authorities, planners, engineers, consultants, and contractors, etc.).
  • Perform full coordination and review of sub-consultants’ information and recommend any necessary revisions. 
  •  Proficient in representing and presenting ideas in design and construction, including preparing drawings primarily in Revit.
  • Review architectural or engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with government codes, bylaws, and regulations.
  • Prepare and review designs, working drawings, specifications and cost estimates related to the project at each stage.  
  • Research literature and maintain knowledge of current building materials, structural, mechanical, and electrical system codes, and methods of application.
  • Review Subcontractor's shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract agreements, checking them for technical accuracy according to accepted guidelines.
  • Technically knowledgeable and up to date with current building science, envelope design and architectural detailing.

Technical Skills

  • Candidate must be fluent in delivering a project from Preliminary Design to completion of Construction Documents in Revit.
  • Previous experience with implementing and managing BIM data as well as working with BIM360 (Preferred)
  • Previous Experience using Newforma and Microsoft Teams for Project Management (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in the following software is also preferred: AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Bluebeam, BIM360, V-Ray/Lumion, Newforma.
