Q4A is looking for a new addition to our Toronto studio. Q4A has been in growth mode for 5+ years and are now seeking a Senior Job Captain or Technical Specialist with 7 to 10 years of relevant experience to help support new and ongoing project development.

You are an enthusiastic and pleasant individual with a passion for organization, collaboration, building design, and construction. You are professional through and through and have a practiced proficiency when it comes to shepherding design to built-reality. You are technically savvy with regards to construction practices, code-compliance, detailing, and coordinating with consultants. You anticipate the needs of clients and contractors, while collaborating with your team to keep the project on-time and on-budget. You think three steps ahead and seek solutions before a problem emerges.

Qualifications

  • Professional degree in architecture or Architectural Technology
  • License to practice architecture in Ontario is beneficial (but not a requisite)
  • LEED and/or WELL accreditation is beneficial (but not a requisite)
  • Must have extensive Contract Administration experience (consultant coordination, Shop Drawing review, document management)
  • Professional in all communication (both written and verbal)
  • Highly motivated with superb interpersonal skills
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities


Portfolio must demonstrate:

  • Excellence in producing Construction Documents (BP, Tender, Construction sets, etc.)
  • Exposure to different types of construction (wood, steel, concrete)
  • Ability to solve construction and buildability problems through sketching and detailing
  • Demonstrated Revit expertise (a Revit evaluation will be required after 1st interview)

Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to document and coordinate a complex building design from initial planning and Schematic Design through Construction Administration
  • Works with consultants to gather facts, defines design and construction parameters, conceptualize possible solutions and secure approvals of proposals and solutions
  • Reviews product literature, analyzes materials and determines appropriateness for application to projects and details
  • Develops Construction Documents, including Building Permit, Site-Planning Approval, Issued for Tender, Issued for Construction, Specifications, and Site Instructions
  • Is comfortable dealing with multiple stakeholders (municipal authorities, planners, engineers, and contractors, etc.)
  • Leads contract administration process and works with stakeholders to ensure that the appropriate hand-offs take place, to ensure that the design intent is followed through to the completion of construction
  • Performs full coordination of consultants, contractors, and trades (when necessary)
  • Is proficient in communicating design ideas through drawing and working primarily in Revit
  • Designs projects and reviews architectural or engineering plans, specifications and contract documents to ensure compliance with government codes, laws, and regulations
  • Advises Subcontractors on the interpretation of building plans and, recommends changes when necessary
  • Prepares and reviews preliminary designs, working drawings, specifications and cost estimates related to the project
  • Researches literature and maintain knowledge of current building materials, structural, mechanical and electrical system codes and methods of application
  • Reviews Subcontractor's shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract agreements by checking them for technical accuracy according to accepted guidelines
  • Maintains and upholds firm documentation standards
  • Can communicate, follow, and delegate project team responsibilities in line with firm and project expectations

COVID-19 Procedures:
Following the recent uptick in Coronavirus/COVID-19 cases in Ontario, our staff has returned to a largely Work-from-Home environment, however our office remains open to allow people to work socially-distanced if they prefer. We utilize Zoom and Microsoft Teams for digital collaboration among project teams and communicating with our clients. Working knowledge and comfort with these systems is essential to the success of this role. Ongoing, we are reassessing our Return-to-Office plans in conjunction with government guidelines.
