Description The Milton Sales Pavilion was an unrealized project dedicated to supporting sales and community engagement for future residents of the surrounding South Hawthorne Community.
The project siting aimed to engage visitors, whether arriving for project tours, sales meetings, or other events, to interact with the sights and sounds of the landscape. The existing presence of water on the site, was maximized with integration of the future community’s Stormwater Management Pond. The significance of this water element was drawn out by placing the building above and straddling the pond and its connecting stream.
As visitors learn about the site and project through their journey through the pavilion, they also progress across this waterscape through glimpsed views, bridged crossings, and waterside lounge areas. Emphasizing height, brand, and visibility, the main entry aims to welcome prospective clients while evoking a Japanese lantern. To further this aesthetic, its zen-like connotations, and the forested landscape beyond, the construction and materials used in the pavilion celebrate Japanese forms and wood joinery.
